An update to a story we first told you about last Friday night, a partial settlement has been reached in lawsuits stemming from last year’s furniture store fire which killed nine Charleston firefighters.
Families of eight of the nine firefighters sued various furniture manufacturers, a building contractor and companies that built and installed fire doors at the Sofa Super Store where the fire occurred.
Court paperwork shows 12 defendants have settled for $5.6 million to be divided among the families.
Eighteen defendants remain in the case, including the Sofa Super Store.
The city of Charleston has purchased the store site for a memorial.
