DAY 7…...Back in Canada
After leaving our Cruise Ship behind, we spent the day in Skagway, Alaska, a wonderful old historic town.
It was the place the many of the gold miners called home in the 1890’s, and boy, are there some stories about
the life of a miner. If you have ever been to Skagway, you know it is a shopping mecca. You name it, they have it…and yes, we did leave some of our money behind as well. I have a feeling our Charleston group will be bringing home some souveniers for their loved ones. Special thanks to Barbara for my present….a cool pair of Alaska socks. Yes, we forgot to pack enough socks for the trip!!!! After Skagway, it was off in the motorcoach with Lyle our busdriver for the train station. This is where we boarded the White Pass Train headed to the Yukon in Canada. The sights were magnificent!!!! I will continue to try and send back as many pictures as possible, but the internet connections here are very sparse, so it might be another day or so before I can add the pictures to our gallery. You can find that on the weather page at counton2.com. The train trip lasted about 2 hours, and along the way we saw the world’s smallest desert in Carcross, and even a few Caribou crossing the road in front of us…..even if it was just for a fleeting few seconds. We ended up in Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory of Canada. What a cool place this is. The people are friendly, the money is different, and the food was wonderful. I am still sweating from the “hot” wings we ordered in the restaurant. Thank goodness I passed on the “extra hot.“ It’s time to continue our Journey, as we will motor coach to Beaver Creek Dam in Canada. I am sure there is much more beautiful scenery to enjoy along the way….....Weather here is nice and cool….with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the 40’s.
