WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by The Franko Blog!
We will talk about everything from the news of the day, to random thoughts.  This is not a one-way conversation…I invite you to give me your thoughts on things I blog about, and things I don’t.  No topic is off limits!

BTW…disagreement is part of the game. But, please keep it clean. This is an all ages show!

Air Expo brings bitter sweet memories
Posted on 04/24 at 05:20 AM.

People ask me all the time about my most memorable moment as a journalist.  It’s a simple answer...my ride with The Blue Angels.

A couple of years ago I had the privilege of flying with The Blue Angels, more specifically, LtCdr Kevin Davis.

He took me on the ride of a lifetime in his FA-18 Hornet...one year later in Beaufort, Davis died when his Blue Angels jet crashed in Beaufort.

I said at the time, and I still feel this way today...I only spent about two hours with the guy, but his death still cut pretty deep.

In this business I have the honor of meeting some incredible people, but most often is a handshake, and a nice to meet you. With Davis, I put my life in his hands.

That will make you feel a bit closer to someone for obvious reasons.

I am headed to the Air Force Base today to see the new F-22.  It will be here for this weekend’s Charleston Air Expo.

Hey Brad, it’s Amy Hile...(and PLEASE no association with Shiver)

I saw the Blue Angels fly in Nantucket last year, shortly before the Beaufort accident. Watching them was mesmerizing and awe-inspiring, and kindled a spirit in myself and my kids that I did not know existed.
It certainly takes a brave and rare soul to fly those machines and losing one is like losing many.
I too felt blind-sided upon hearing about his plane going down. It took my breath away.

You’re not alone in your mourning.

Amy
