WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by The Franko Blog!
We will talk about everything from the news of the day, to random thoughts.  This is not a one-way conversation…I invite you to give me your thoughts on things I blog about, and things I don’t.  No topic is off limits!

BTW…disagreement is part of the game. But, please keep it clean. This is an all ages show!

Since things got so ugly last week, I thought today would be a good time to bring it back to what causes emotions to run so high in the first place.  Then nine guys who gave their lives on June 18th.

Tonight Capt. Louis Mulkey’s widow, Lauren will present the first scholarship award in her late husband’s name.

The $2,500 scholarship will be given to a Summerville High School student who exemplifies what Louis meant to the Green Wave community.

If you were not aware...when Louis wasn’t fighting fires and saving lives...he was on the field, or in the gym coaching at Summerville High School.  I get chills thinking about that picture of the State Champion Summerville basketball team wearing their fire helmets with Mulkey’s initials.

Louis is the first Charleston firefighter I met when I moved down here.  I was shooting the Citadel football game and he came up behind me and gave me a swat on the fanny and said..."so the sports boy is a fire boy too!?”...the guy just loved life!

I invite you to click on the comments section and share your stories and memories of Louis and the eight other heroes of 6-18-07.

COMMENTS

Thank you Flashpoint. It’s disheartening however, that an entries about the reports, and the findings of mistakes will generate 50+ comments. Most of them finger pointing, name-calling, and condemnation.  Yet an entry which brings us back to what this is all about, gets one comment.

I am going to talk a little bit more about this later today.

Good point Brad. The high road is often the road less traveled. The concerns can be tabled for now. The truth is now obvious. Good for these Summerville kids for honoring a hard working guy who left this world literally giving all he had.
