D-Day for DTV is is here
Posted on 06/12 at 11:00 AM.

Today is the day.

At 11:30 tonight, News 2 will make the switch to Digital TV.

Hopefully by now you have everything you need, but if you’re still having problems, we are here to help!!

Let me know what issues you have, so you don’t lose your signal.

You can get some of the basics by watching the video…you can also get step-by-step directions to setting up your converter box in our Digital Switch section.

There is also a new service, set up by the FCC…they will send someone to your home to set up your boxes and help you get your antenna adjusted.  Call: 888-508-1115

COMMENTS

Hey, Brad.  I just bought my converter box today and I’ve spent 2 hours trying to hook it up.  I have a rabbit-ears antenna, a VCR, a TVGuardian, the TV, and the converter box.  The converter box is the only addition to this link, but I can’t seem to get the right order in my hookup.  Any suggestions?

I think the loop (right now) is TV to TVG to VCR to antenna.

Thanks,
Melanie

Why do I get a “no signal” even when I have the converter boxes all hooked up. Some days I can only get one station. Other days things look o.k. Is this “the future” progress? So far I’m not too thrilled with digital.

OK…i have some encouraging news.  just got an email from our ops manager…there is a chance that the problems with the dtv transmitter will be resolved tonight.  keep your fingers crossed!  again we apologize…we understand how annoying it is!

thanks for your patience!

Just to let all of you know, i’ve tried to email you individually, but we are indeed having a problem with our DTV transmitter.  It’s fried…our engineering staff has been working on this since Friday and are trying their best to get it fixed asap.  We apologize for the problems especially since it is such a big game tonight.  i will keep you posted!

I have also lost the signals for 2.1, 2.2, and 36.1 these last couple of days. They were working great before that with my rabbit ears and HDTV. There is a bigtime football game on tonight that I wouldn’t want to miss.
Please help.

We are not getting a signal for two days now. It has been coming in clearly up to then. How long before we receive 2.1 ans 2.2? We miss you guys! Merry Christmas.

The channel 2 digital signal seems to have disappeared for me today (and its been very bad for the last couple weeks).  I have been watching it since the digital broadcasts first went up.  I can get all the other digital broadcasts fine.  Has anything changed?

Here’s a more fun take to those normally boring switch to digital ads that are running right now.  Hey anything that

I’m now picking up wcbd on channel 0 on Comcast.  Is that your digital number on Comcast?

I bought a Magnavox TV just a couple of years ago.  It is an HDTV.  Isn’t the saying that not all digital tv’s are HD, but all HD’s are digital?  But during your tests, it tells me that I am not DTV-ready.  Were they even selling non-digital tv’s just a few years ago?

Hey Alfred,  if you have cable then you will not get 2.1, or 2.2.  That is only over-the-air.  If you disconnect your cable and connect an antenna then you will get the other 2.1, 2.2, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and so on.

To get those channels you need a digital tuner in the TV or a converter box.

Let me know if it still doesn’t work when you try it that way.

I also do not get 2.1 opr 2.2 but get the others. I have Comcast Cable. Makes mewonder if I have a problem or Comcast has a problem. I guess time will tell.

Yeah Maggie, it will only program the channels with signals it finds during the autoscan.  You can either try adjusting it, add the channel manually, or get an outdoor antenna.

There’s a great resource for to find out what type to get… go to www.antennaweb.org.

They will tell you what type to get, and even tell you which direction to point it!

I plugged in my converter box yesterday and did the autoscan.  It only picked up three stations, (Ch 2, 4 and 24).  I used to have 6!  How do I get the other stations (5, 7 and 36)?  Is it just a matter of adjusting the antenna?  Are the digital station # 5.2, 7.2 and 36.2?

Hey everybody, I just found out that Charter down in Beaufort doesn’t get the digital signal yet.  I am assuming that they will be ready by Feb 17…but I will check with them later this morning.

Thanks for the kind words Miss Delores!  I just don’t want people to end up without a tv signal…especially when I’m in a position to help.

As for your coupon issue…unfortunately you only get one shot at the coupons.  if they expire they don’t give you any more.

Now, what you can do, is ask someone who won’t need them to order them and they can give them to you.

Posted by Brad Franko on 11/23 at 10:18 AM

Hey Herb,  I’m wondering if you would get 2-1 if you plugged in an antenna.  I can’t promise it would work, but it might.  Do you get 2-2?  That’s the second of our two channels.

Posted by Brad Franko on 11/23 at 10:15 AM

John, Knology will be ready for the switch in February, so as long as your tv is hooked up to the cable, it will work just fine.

Posted by Brad Franko on 11/23 at 10:13 AM

Brad, I have knology. One on my TVs is HDTV connected to the Knology HDTV-DVR. I have 3 SDTVs connected directly to the Knology cable, not thru a box. After 2/17/09 will knology be transmitting analog so my 3 directly connected SDTVs will receive a signal??? If not, myself and alot of folks will have to have cable box or DTV Converter for each of these sets, just to see our standard TV programing. Is this going to be another “shoe to drop” on 2/17/09?  Please look in to. Thanks

Brad,
I still do not recieve 2.1 , but get all the others. I have ot used any antena only whatever is built in. I dd get all without an antena, but now only get all others including 3 PBS channels.
Thans
Herb

Mr. Brad may God bless you in a mighty way because of the help that you are giving the people of Charleston, Sc and surrounding areas with the DTV situations, because you do not have to do what you are doing I thank God for you and you just continue to keep up the great of God because God is all about helping others

Posted by Delores on 11/21 at 01:08 PM

Do you know of anywhere I can get a airline ticket one way from Memphis, Tn back to Charleston, Sc on 11/29/08 for free or for a reasonable price, what happen is that my family is having Thankingiving Dinner in Memphis, Tn. and my daughter purchase a one way ticket for me to get there because that’s all she could do at the time, in hope that I would be able to get some money together to be able to purchase a one way back to charleston or ride back to atlanta, ga with her and rent a car one way from atlanta, ga to charleston, sc but I do not have the money for that either so if someone can help me out I would appreciate it

Posted by Delores on 11/21 at 01:05 PM

how do I get another set of coupons because the ones I had expired because at the time I did not have the money to purchase the converter boxes can I go online to order coupons? also once everything changes over the battery/car operated TV that I have for emergency reason will become obsalete and if that’s the case it’s really going to hurt a lot of people because that’s all some people have and can afford

Posted by Delores on 11/21 at 12:59 PM

Herb, are you still having problems seeing our signal on 2.1?

@BradFranko At first glance, looks like network extended statewide.

@BradFranko Exactly my point: Why so long for higher authorities to challenge "Good ol' boy network" in CHS?
