Gallant promises big news at special Safety Committee meeting

Charleston City Councilman Jimmy Gallant told me to expect a couple of big announcements tonight at the special Public Safety Committee meeting.

Gallant called that meeting last week after a volley of strong words between himself and Mayor Joe Riley.

The turmoil erupted after a series of promotions and transfers within the Charleston Fire Department. Some, including firefighters who were transferred, called the moves retaliation by outgoing Chief Rusty Thomas, against those who spoke out against him.

The chief denied those claims through a CFD spokesman.

You may have noticed Councilman Tim Mallard commented on the blog last week…he is pushing a complete reform of the city government.

What do you expect will happen tonight?
