WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by The Franko Blog!
We will talk about everything from the news of the day, to random thoughts.  This is not a one-way conversation…I invite you to give me your thoughts on things I blog about, and things I don’t.  No topic is off limits!

BTW…disagreement is part of the game. But, please keep it clean. This is an all ages show!

Gas prices are falling…where’s the hype?

We are dropping the ball.

I admit that.

When gas prices were steadily climbing…peaking at more than $4/gallon nationally, we were sounding the alarm. Warning people that $7 isn’t far off!

Now gas prices have dropped, down 21-cents in a month…23 cents in the Lowcountry to $3.67/gallon. The much maligned dollar made strides against the Euro lately and it went virtually unnoticed by the general public.

You can blame left-wing media bias if you want…but I think it’s far less sinister. I think it’s as simple as rising prices, and people struggling are sexier stories to the mainstream national media.

Granted…$3.67 is still tough to cope with. But it appears the worst (barring a tropical system or more turmoil in the middle east) is behind us.

I will push for more on this story today during our editorial meetings.

COMMENTS

It is nice to hear gas prices is dropping down. Hopefully, other prices on basic commodities will go down, too.

This is definitely great news. I hope other outrageous prices on basic commodities will go down too. And hopefully, a bigger drop on gas prices still.

Gas prices dropping is certainly good news for everybody. Gas price goes up and basic commodity prices also goes up. But when gas prices goes down, does basic commodity price go down? I don’t think so. Well, at least gas prices are dropping…

Aweless is absolutely the best word I’ve heard in weeks! An unfortunate reality is remembering the last oil crisis, waiting in line in L.A. to get enough gas to get to a hospital where my dad was dieing. The following years did bring about smaller cars like the Falcon, Chevy 2 and Toyotas! That time it was about running out of oil, this time it is about who controls it or manipulates it.
We are just about to turn that corner of weather concerns and changing over to heating oil as excuses. We didn’t learn a lesson in ‘73 and we probably won’t in this time. All I can see is a larger divide between the haves and have nots and a diminishing middle class in this country.

I think it’s funny that gasoline goes up a couple cents and everyone goes crazy but Starbucks goes up 30 cents on a cup of coffee and nobody says a word.

Just an FYI…we are going through a server transition for the blog so I’ve been locked out of adding new entries.  Hopefully we’ll be back up and running later today! Thanks for keeping this thread going!

Leo…..Wow!!! Your comments on my posting are simply aweless.
I was just stating facts and not soliciting personal attacks nor was I offering my personal beliefs. Please excuse me while I start my Maybach.

Read what you wrote, Brad… you’re right… it isn’t as “sexy” as lower gas prices… so then the point becomes, are we only reporting “the sexy” stories?  Or the news?  But I still agree with your point.

BTW,
The crux of “Global Warming”(warnings??) “Greenhouse Effect”,  relies on increased average temperatures in the upper troposphere. Earth surface temp averages have ranged up and down forever, but we’ve been able to study upper troposphere temps for @ 60 yrs, and have found no indication that the Global Warming/Greenhouse Effect climate models are even useful, much less accurate.

The press is seeing the pressure on the Dems for more oil exploration and exploitation. The Dems don’t like the pressure, so the press has stopped reporting on it as a means of relieving Pelosi and gang.

Art Shields:
This is a free country, if you want to buy a smaller, more fuel efficient vehicle, you are completely free to do so!

If you feel that you should pay more in fuel taxes, again, you are totally free to do so!

To advocate that all Americans should be forced to do what you feel compelled to do for whatever reason smacks of totalitarianism.

When we want to be taxed at higher rates, we will elect the politician who promises to raise our taxes by the largest amount.

Most of the pol’s running right now are promising to cut “our” taxes and raise taxes on someone else!! Perhaps you’ll jump up and volunteer that they start by raising your taxes, as a demonstration of your commitment to your beliefs??!!!

Supply and demand = higher prices with higher consumption and lower supply= lower prices with lower consumption with higher supply.

I think it would be wonderful to hear more positive things in the news, it doesn’t happen often enough!

I don’t like to get my hopes up when it comes to the government’s desicions lately.  I will be more appreciative when there is a constant reduction in the price vs. the 2 weeks that we’ve seen thus far and/or when the government comes up with and releases a long term, more economic alternative to gasoline; in addition, making it affordable for everyone.  Thanks!

My fear is that lowering gas prices will lead to increased consumption and future supply concerns not to mention the effect on global warnings. I would much rather see more fuel efficient vehicles that reduce consumption rather than a push for lower gas prices.

We need to learn from the Europeans who long ago went to smaller fuel efficient vehicles and pay a much, much higher gas tax intended to control and limit consumption.
