WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by The Franko Blog!

We will talk about everything from the news of the day, to random thoughts.  This is not a one-way conversation…I invite you to give me your thoughts on things I blog about, and things I don’t.  No topic is off limits!

BTW…disagreement is part of the game. But, please keep it clean. This is an all ages show!

Gas prices are falling…where’s the hype?

image
You couldn’t pry gas prices out of the lead story spot on any newscast with a backhoe two months ago...now that they are falling you’re lucky if it makes it as a casual mention...or a BTW as they say in “texting”.

Beijing games off to incredible start

image
The opening ceremony was nothing short of incredible...and I’m apparently not the only one who thought so. It was the most watched opening of an Olypmpics in history.  And how bout that Synchronized Diving?!

Cops are targets and some think that’s right

image
Colleton County Deputy Dennis Compton’s murder is another in a disturbing trend.  Last year was one of the deadliest on record for law enforcemnt in the U.S. with 116 killed. This year we’ve already lost almost 70 of the finest.

Child killed in ATV accident rekindles debate

image
A seven-year-old from Rock Hill died when his ATV cut in front of an 18-wheeler.  Now the question will again come up about legislation that has been debated, and sent to the governor several times only to be vetoed.

Hey Franko, eat some “big boy” food

image
I ran over to the grocery store for a little something to eat Monday morning. I was hungry, but it needed to be something I could throw down the hatch at my desk...I grabbed a Lunchable, and I’m getting hammered for it.

Football practice starts for the prepsters tomorrow. Just in time too...the thermometer is expected to get close to 100 degrees plus humidity, it will feel like it’s 1000 degrees! Good luck boys!

Geek Look-a-likes on Bikes?

By geeks I mean they are dressed like the Geeks on Call, or the Geek Squad.  I have seen these three guys a couple of times now.  They ride down around town dressed in short sleeved white dress shirts, ties, and black pants. Have you seen them?

Keep your thermostat at 78…not me

image
That low-grade hum you hear when you step outside on days like this, is the electric meters on our houses working overtime to keep up with the AC unit.  They say 78 is the optimal setting...that’s a bit stuffy for me.

Best email in a long time

image
This email arrived in my inbox this morning.  I couldn’t help but pass it along because it brought a smile to my face.  Even though the good news expires after 48-hours… I think you will take it for what it’s worth on a Monday.

Christmas in July

image
On the air this morning I said that there are something like 153 shopping days left until Christmas.  Now is also the time we here about “Christmas in July” apparently some take is seriously.

911 for a cat in a tree…gimme a break

image
So I reported the story this morning about the cat that has been stuck in a tree for three days.  First of all, it’s newsworthiness is questionable at best.  Secondly, why would you call 911 to get a cat from a tree?

SC boy sells toys to benefit troops

image
I got an email from a woman whose son decided to sell his toys at a rummage sale and use the money to buy supplies for our troops serving in Iraq.  Seven years old, and an example to all of us.

Firefighters ambushed by gunfire

image
A St. Louis area firefighter is dead after a gunman opened fire on his engine company as they arrived to put out a car fire early this morning.  The guy barricaded himself in a burning home across the street and never came out.

Pigs in the crosshairs of the Army

imageHave you heard this yet? The U.S. Army is going to shoot live pigs as part of a drill for soldiers headed to Iraq.  The Army says this is the closest they can come to replicating what soldiers may encounter in Iraq.

New JibJab video is hilarious

image
I’m sure you have seen portions of it by now...but I have the entire movie posted.  It’s worth a few minutes of time...it’s another classic from the same people who brought us “This Land”, and of course “What we call the News”.  It’s awesome!
