MT. PLEASANT, S.C., Wednesday, May 28, 2008 – The world’s No. 1-ranked player Lorena Ochoa has withdrawn from the Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA due to a family emergency.
“I am very sorry to have to withdraw from the Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA, but my uncle is very ill,” said Ochoa. “I need to be with my uncle and my family right now.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with Lorena and her family at this time,” said Annika. “She is a tremendous ambassador for our game and we will miss her this week. That being said, family comes first and I know she has a very close family. I respect and support her decision and wish them the best.”
“We understand that family is the priority, and the tournament realizes she needs to be with them at this time,” said Tournament Director Becky Newell. “Our prayers are with her family. We look forward to a great week of golf with the fantastic ladies of the LPGA.”
