Excessive heat preparedness
Posted on 06/17 at 06:08 AM.

Guidance is coming into better agreement this morning on the upcoming hot weather and it now appears likely the heat index will exceed 105 degrees on both Friday and Saturday.  It could even approach 110 in some areas!

Once we see these values, heat illness becomes likely with prolonged unprotected exposure to the heat and humidity.

Here is what you need to do before the heat wave begins.

-Be sure your air conditioning systems in your car and home are serviced and in proper working order.  If you do not have air conditioning, try to contact friends/relatives who do and see if you can stay with them.

-Make sure your pets have adequate protection from direct sunlight.

-Explain to children the importance of staying hydrated, even if they are at the pool or beach.  Just because you are in the water, and you feel cool, doesn’t mean you are safe from heat exhaustion.
