What happened to severe weather season?

With all of the talk on VORTEX 2, the largest severe weather research expedition ever, you would think severe weather was breaking out everywhere.  Well guess what?  This past week was very quiet, so quiet the Storm Prediction Center didn’t issue a single weather watch(severe t-storm/tornado)!  This has never happened before during this particular week in May.

Greg Carbin with the Storm Prediction Center has a pretty detailed description of this past week’s event in the US Severe Weather Blog

This is bad news for the VORTEX 2 project, but great news for the rest of us who are not particularly big fans of severe weather.  After last year, I can tell you, I’m pretty much over severe weather!

I’m with you…  I hope the hurricane season is just like the severe weather season for the entire coast!

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.

Take care!
Josh

I was hoping severe weather season was over since we have not seen much.  Looking forward to a calm hurricane season.

You do a great job!  Keep up the good work.

Severe weather season for the southeast is really about all year long.  Tornadoes are most likely in the Spring and Fall, with the threat of large hail and damaging winds staying with us during the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Last year was a very active season, unusually active in fact, while this year has been relatively calm.  I’m not complaining about that, how about you?  As I said in the post, after last year, I’m over severe weather.

Josh, I was wondering about the severe weather a couple of weeks ago.  We have not had much here either.  When does severe weather season end?  Was last year atypical as far as the amount of severe weather we experienced?
