Who say’s it has to be humid in July?
Posted on 06/30 at 09:14 PM.

We hit the 90s today, and dare I say it wasn’t that bad?  Well, it really wasn’t.  You can thank a cold front that passed through yesterday for the drier conditions and also for the likelihood many of us will wake up to 60s on Wednesday morning.

So why is it that we saw 90s over the weekend, and you could barely stay outside for more than a few minutes, but today’s 90s felt almost liveable?  It’s all in the humidity.  Dry air allows your body to cool down because sweat readily evaporates when the relative humidity.  Evaporation is a cooling process, and that is why you are able to cool down and tolerate the 90s easier on a day like today.  On the other hand, higher relative humidity values do not allow your body’s natural air conditioner to work as easily, so you feel uncomfortable and are more in danger of heat illness.

Don’t get used to the dry air though, it will only be around for another day or so before the humidity that our summers are known for makes a return.
