WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by The Murray Blog!

We will talk about everything from the news of the day, to random thoughts.  This is not a one-way conversation…I invite you to give me your thoughts on things I blog about, and things I don’t.  No topic is off limits!

BTW…disagreement is part of the game. But, please keep it clean. This is an all ages show!

I want my child and your’s to be safe
Signs and Symptoms of Child Sexual Abuse Physical signs of sexual abuse are not common, although redness, rashes or swelling in the genital area, urinary tract infections or other such symptoms should be carefully investigated. Also, physical problems associated with anxiety, such as chronic stomach pain or headaches, may occur. Emotional or behavioral signals are more common. These can run from “too perfect” behavior, to withdrawal and depression, to unexplained anger and rebellion. Sexual behavior and language that are not age-appropriate can be a red flag. Be aware that in some children there are no signs whatsoever.

It should, because as shocking as it sounds, that is exactly what employees at some hospitals around
In New York, health care workers who refuse to take the swine flu vaccine will not be able to work anywhere else in the state due to a new regulation requiring workers there to take the swine flu vaccine. What would you do if you were forced to choose between your job and taking the swine flu vaccine against your will?

Founding Father always knows best
I was privileged to peruse a good word or 2 during the past week. It seems as if everyone, everywhere is writing. And with good reason...Wilson, Kanye', Serena and the President...have all given us reasons to read from the works of one of the founding fathers.

Talking ‘til I’m flu in the face
I know my daughter. I knew the recent reports about H1N1 would beginning to scare her. So instead of hiding information from her, I allowed her questions to guide how much information I would give her. I started watching her for clues that they may want to talk, such as hovering around while I was washing dishes or folding laundry. She would not want a complete dissertation on this new strain of influenza. She asked a few questions, return to playing, then came back to ask more questions. Here are some suggestions for talking to children:

What does your child know about the water?
I had a near drowning experience in a swimming pool when I was about 8 or 9. I will never forget how quickly I was in the water...and how desperately I was fighting to stay alive. Don't let that happen to your child. Safety skills are invaluable in case your child is accidentally knocked into the water or get a cramp while swimming.

The sky is falling!  Take me to a library!
If I knew the sky would crash into the earth....I would assemble my husband, our daughter and our dog, our parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers and their families and my best friend in the library. The library is a place where I find peace and solace.

School is starting in just a couple of days. I had been counting the seconds, but now I am feeling a little weepy. May I borrow your shoulder?

Message from my good friend Dr. Thaddeus J Bell
By now you know that breast cancer is a feared disease for women. Breast cancer does not discriminate, but for African American women it's very deadly.
