I drive past a school busstop every morning as I take our daughter to school. It struck me that nearly every 1/3 of the children at the busstop would be considered obese by medical standards. What is happening to our children? Is it possible to save them before they kill themselves through poor diet and exercise. The Medical College of Georgia recently released results of another study on children and obesity. They found children with more fat around their midsections could be at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in life. the study suggests routine waist measurements in obese children could predict which ones had developed risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as higher fasting insulin levels, a precursor for diabetes.
