I did a story on the “C2B” race, the Charleston to Bermuda sailboat race last week. I wanted to get on board one of the boats and set sail for Bermuda myself.
The cool thing is, you can see where all the boats are at anytime at the race’s website, http://www.charlestontobermuda.com. The Nova has had to turn around, and is now back in Charleston. I’m told that happens for one reason or another. That had to be a disappointment. As nice as Charleston is, I think if I were looking forward to the blue waters and pink beaches of Bermuda and had to come back here, I’d be disappointed. It looks like (as of now) Charleston’s tall ship, “The Spirit of South Carolina,“ is currently a few miles out ahead of the pack in the lead. She is certainly the largest ship though, and I would imagine that might be part of the reason she is able to get out front (she also had a 10 minute head start at the beginning of the race:) Check out the progress of the ships, as they are within 150-250 miles of Bermuda now. That’s out of 777 miles total. Check out my story at the start of the race, below.
