Locklear's Mt. Pleasant Dining Date: 8/18/08 approx. 6:30pm The atmosphere inside Locklear's Lowcountry Grill is nice. It was aesthetically pleasing. The service received was good. The food was a huge letdown. We ordered appetizers of calamari and she crab soup. My calamari came and they could not have been fried any better. No seasoning to speak of, but nice/simple calamari. My fiance's she crab soup arrived thick and barely warm. After immediately sending it back to be warmed up our entrees arrived. We canceled her soup at her time...after all, who wants their appetizer after they have started on their entree? We both had ordered pasta dishes for our main course. Mine was the Bull's Bay Pasta. Presentation was very nice. It looked really appetizing, but that's where the positives stopped. Nothing in my dish had a bit of seasoning...most notably there was a huge lack of salt. They do not season their pasta water when cooking the noodles nor do they season the dish as it is sautéed together. Flavor was a big zero (0) on my dish. The same was true for my fiance's Cainhoy Country Pasta. This dish is supposed to be made with country ham...evidently they consider something else country ham than what I do. They used regular sandwich style ham instead of salt cured "country" ham. Now, I will say that her dish had a bit more flavor than mine...but you can attribute that directly to the use of ham and sundried tomatoes in her dish. These ingredients have a flavor of their own and they did impart their flavors on the dish. Still, her dish had no seasoning whatsoever. In both of our pasta dishes the mushrooms were completely raw. These dishes should be sauteed yet what we received was some ingredients that had not been sauteed at all. A more accurate description is "boiled" in a little wine and/or sauce until warm. Locklear's is typical of the tourist minded restaurants that litter the coastlines of the US. Be wary of restaurants in seasonal areas that target one-time customers.

We love Social, have been on several occasions. The staff are wonderful, the wine flights varied & interesting, the food is not the fanciest in Charleston but better than most town's worst! We have never experienced any unbecoming patrons or behaviour in our many visits. Please don't be dissuaded by one customer's experience which, sadly, can happen anwhere in the South!

The popularity of this place is definitely via word of mouth, as you'd never just "happen" upon it. Arrived about 7:45pm on a Thursday night, with a line at the door....getting your name down on the list was a bit confusing/chaotic, but were we called and seated after 5 minutes or so. Waitstaff was very pleasant and informative. I enjoyed my salad with grilled chicken, carmelized apples, gorganzola cheese, and walnuts very much. I didnt see many plates going back to the Kitchen with food left on them! Generous portions. A little noisy when restaurant is at full capacity, but by 8:30 or so, the crowd had thinned and it was pleasant. 4 beers and two entrees ran $32. We took a piece of the brownie/chocolate cake to go...it was enough for 2 of us to split and STILL feel gluttonous! A good restaurant, with good food, but having eaten at all of this owner's restaurants, I admit I still prefer Mustard Seed the most!

Sadly... with tears, real tears..I went like every wednesday night to play trivia. The sign my wife and I saw posted on the door was, Tobie's Closed. under that read.... From my heart, to my friends,..."I enjoyed the Dance" love Tobie. what can I possibly say. To my wife and I, it was if a tornado came and ripped off the dinning room and livingroom off from our home. We loved going there each evening, relaxing, enjoyed the social gatherings of friends from all over. Tobies wasnt just a restaurant and a bar. It was a beating heart. The restaurant permeated of Tobies qualities, her personality, her love of people and serving them. I stood at the front door, the parking lot had many cars coming in and out.. a few gathered at the door, read the sign again and again with me. we stood there, chatted a moment, they would turn around. You could hear the comments, "where do we go now?.." there isnt anywhere better in moncks corner than here" I woke early this morning I drove down to her restaurant, quiet again. cars driving in and driving out. My heart hurt for her. I hope to find her again..whereever she goes, she would have a following, and I would follow her, just to be served and greeted by her. My wife and I will sadly,so sadly miss her, as Im sure everyone that knew or knows her will do the same. Realizing the economy and the growth in her area, the costs and the fuel prices have slowed many from eating and drinking out has effected a small business like Tobies... I just wish there had been someone to her rescue.. but knowing how much pride and humbled woman she is, she would never had asked for help. Tobie did it on her own, by herself. Extrordinary woman. Tobie, I know you often visit this site, and pray that you visit it this last time. I know how hurt you must feel, I would hope that possibly another restaurant would offer you a managment position, I also know that it is your PASSION. I heard this morning that you are looking for a position. With that I would like to extend to others that if they are a restaurant and in need of a postion filled, then to contact you. I do not have the ability to offer your phone number, but I can offer your restaurant email to them if they would like to inquire. Im so sorry. With heartfelt compassion and truly respect for you, your staff and what you accomplished in the food industry. Thank you for the Firefighters benefit you had last year and the love you put into it.wow.. its been a year since we lost those guys.. We all surely will miss you. I'll be cleaning the mess from the tornado that just came thru my livingroom....... most sincere love to you, Tipper Tobie can be reached by her restaurant email at: tobiestailwind@yahoo.com

Burgers are great, but bartenders are slow and rude. They look right at you and then go about ignoring you as you stand politely at the bar waiting to be acknowledged and order a drink.
