Tobies:
Yep! We heard that Tobie had moved on and was now with the Ryan's Corporation too. Thats wonderful. I wonder if Ryan's knows what they have in Tobie. If they will let her cook up some of her what she calls.."Good Groceries".. then they will be in for a treat. That woman knows how to cook and serve others. We eat often at Ryan's when we are close to one, whether while we are shopping or just running around, the food at Ryans is great. But now that I know Tobie is there, the atmosphere will become ALIVE finally. Ya cant slow her down, she will be running all over the place making people feel good about dinning out.
I'll be sure to go and find out when shes scheduled to be there, we want to see her every chance we get.
Thank you for posting here.I was surprised to see the last letter about Tobie. My wife and I did get to see her in concert at the Holiday Inn on Folly Beach when she plays with her Band the Tropicools back a month ago. She great. She puts as much energy in her music as she does in her food.
We also got to see her at the Restaurant and Cigar Bar at MoJo's in Summerville. We try to follow her and Barnacle Bob whenever we can find out where shes playing at.
Hey..I wonder if Ryan's will have live music now. Wouldnt that be neat!
Great Food Great Music.. a Great eveing out.
Thanks for the information.

Tobies:
In staying caught up with Moncks Corner gossip... The Town-Folk have sadly missed Tobie's Tail Wind Tavern in Moncks Corner. Tobie certainly had a way of bringing sunshine to one's day when it was raining all around. The atmosphere of her restaurant has been so misssed by all of her patrons and friends. There just isn't anywhere to go now to relax, enjoy the football and get the best food around. Not to mention and lets not forget the smile that Tobie brought to all of our tables. My wife Nance and I have tried everywhere around to try and capture the same feeling that Tobie's brought to our lives, but we havent found anywhere that compares to Tobie's greeting us at the door with a hug and a big smile. Not even the complimentary appetizer, or the sit down next to us for a few minutes and asks us sincerely how our day was, and still sits there and listens and truly cares how our day actually went.
And would give us a hearty hug as we left her restaurant.
Where are the REAL people like that any more??
well.... then the folks around here wondered where she went....
Tobie had actually found employment with a restaurant chain that obviously must have seen the shine in her... and hired her for manament training. Tobie's Girlfriend told us that she went out of town for extensive training for the corporation and would return as a manager for Ryan's Restaurant.
We finally found out when she got home and heard the rumor that others had heard that she was in the Summerville area.
Nance and I went there last sunday. and Sure enough...Tobie was there at the front door. when she saw Nance and I..she threw her arms around us and gave us both a big hug.
we watched her as she floated all over that restaurant. she chatted and smiled... and I've never been in a Ryan's restaurant EVER that felt that warming and with the touch of Tobie's personality actuallly lit up the people that heard her speak to others.
We both listened as she greeted the other guests.
If they only knew her....But then again, they will. we heard them say...She must be the new one...or She sure is a nice lady...or..She brightens up this place when she walks around.
It was reallly great seeing her there.
I know that we will be there every chance we can now. Just to finally see Tobie where she belongs..among people and patrons.. she always has loved serving others and it shows.
I hope that Ryan's restaurant knows what a Gem of a Lady she is. we miss her.
We wish her all the best. And if she manages Ryan's like she managed her own restaurant, then I suppose on the next Restaurant Review like this year, perhaps it will become number two in the newspaper for the Charleston area restaurants, like she did when she placed Tobie's Tail Wind Tavern as number 2 for Neighborhood Grills in the Tri-County area. She can make it happen!
so watch out Ryan's! Your in for a treat with her on your staff. You made a good and Fine Choice!
Anyone that knows her loves her! she's a wonderful Chef and Entertainer, and by far an extrordinary Hostess. She will sing down the aisles and make your heart smile!
Tobie...I hope you still monitor this site... maybe not since you went out of business..but we sure hope you do. we miss you here in Moncks Corner. Congratulations! I'll make sure we bring your folks to you there...we'd follow you anywhere to see that smile and get our hug.

Locklear's Lowcountry Grill:
Locklear's Mt. Pleasant
Dining Date: 8/18/08 approx. 6:30pm
The atmosphere inside Locklear's Lowcountry Grill is nice. It was aesthetically pleasing.
The service received was good.
The food was a huge letdown.
We ordered appetizers of calamari and she crab soup. My calamari came and they could not have been fried any better. No seasoning to speak of, but nice/simple calamari. My fiance's she crab soup arrived thick and barely warm. After immediately sending it back to be warmed up our entrees arrived. We canceled her soup at her time...after all, who wants their appetizer after they have started on their entree?
We both had ordered pasta dishes for our main course. Mine was the Bull's Bay Pasta. Presentation was very nice. It looked really appetizing, but that's where the positives stopped. Nothing in my dish had a bit of seasoning...most notably there was a huge lack of salt. They do not season their pasta water when cooking the noodles nor do they season the dish as it is sautéed together. Flavor was a big zero (0) on my dish. The same was true for my fiance's Cainhoy Country Pasta. This dish is supposed to be made with country ham...evidently they consider something else country ham than what I do. They used regular sandwich style ham instead of salt cured "country" ham. Now, I will say that her dish had a bit more flavor than mine...but you can attribute that directly to the use of ham and sundried tomatoes in her dish. These ingredients have a flavor of their own and they did impart their flavors on the dish. Still, her dish had no seasoning whatsoever.
In both of our pasta dishes the mushrooms were completely raw. These dishes should be sauteed yet what we received was some ingredients that had not been sauteed at all. A more accurate description is "boiled" in a little wine and/or sauce until warm.
Locklear's is typical of the tourist minded restaurants that litter the coastlines of the US. Be wary of restaurants in seasonal areas that target one-time customers. -- Jay on 08/20/08.
