Wellness Wednesday: New dietary guidelines to fight obesity
Posted on 06/16 at 05:38 AM.

The dietary guidelines for 2010 are now.  The focus is on what experts are calling the greatest threat to public health this century: obesity.

The guidelines emphasize eating a plant-based diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean meat.

The guidelines recommend decreasing sodium intake from 2300 to 1500, and saturated fats from 10 percent to seven percent.

They also suggest ramping up activity levels to two-and-a-half hours of moderate activity a week for adults, and an hour a day for kids.
